Burning your bridges behind you
I recall my decision a number of years ago to leave a position that represented years of training and experience. While it was a job that I could still be employed in today, I knew that it was time to close the door on this chapter in my life. I remember submitting my letter of resignation in a very quiet manner. There was no prior announcement or need to schedule a farewell party. I didn't even have a plan for what I would do next. That is a part of my decision that I would have probably done differently given my current experience as a career counselor. The important thing is that, by not giving myself a back door to escape my decision, I forced myself to look forward and step into the great unknown. I will never regret that decision because it was the source of an incredible amount of personal and professional growth. It also afforded me the opportunity to meet new people and sample several other work environments before choosing private practice. Sometimes it is necessary to move on without a safety net and trust that the Universe will provide. I learned that it does quite well with that service. What are you contemplating that might mean burning your bridges behind you?
