Embracing uncertainty

Most people will tell you that it is important for them to feel like they have control over their lives. This allows them to approach life with a sense of certainty over what will occur. While we make decisions related to our actions in the moment, we have little control over their final outcome. Sound investments can go awry, the happiest of relationships may end abruptly, or our current occupation may end due to an unexpected acquisition. What we can be certain of is that we are given the tools we need to live through whatever change we have presented to us. My favorite saying when a challenge comes my way is, "I know that we are never given any more than we can handle. Right now this feels like more than I can handle. So either change the situation or give me what I need to get through this." Invariably either one or the other happens. Now my plans allow for flexibility and uncertainty. How do I know something better isn't in store for me in this new direction my life is taking? When I remind myself of this, I am encouraged to move forward. I am always given what I need at the moment. It is my responsibility to be open to that and take the necessary action in my life. The good news is that you have been living in a state of uncertainty all of your life and you are still here today. How do you feel knowing this?
