Freedom to choose
One freedom that can never be taken away is the freedom to choose. In most cases you can choose your occupation, where you live, and the company you keep. Those are the more obvious choices you have in life. Celebrate each of them for what they offer you. Less obvious is the freedom to choose your attitude toward an event in your life. You can choose to see the positive or the negative in everything that happens to you. Finding the positive when you are in the throes of a job loss, the passing of a loved one, or having to move is not always easy. Begin by acknowledging the loss and the feelings that accompany it. That's your first choice. Then, when you are ready, seek out others with whom you can share what is occurring and consider your options. That's another choice. Remind yourself of similar situations and what you did to move through them. Still another choice. Life is filled with such choices. Approaching life in this way prevents you from adopting a victim mentality. Recognize that you are ultimately responsible for what happens in your life. Be willing to take the actions that support this belief. What are the choices you are making today that demonstrate this freedom?
