If money was no object

One question I often ask clients is, "If money was no object, what would you do, be, or, have?" The client might respond, "Travel," "Open a shelter for runaway teenagers," or "Earn my college degree." The interesting part of this is that, while money may be involved, it is not critical to achieving any of these goals. What the client is doing is telling me what is important and having limited perspectives of how to attract that into his or her life. People travel as companions to those who can afford to pay most of the expenses. People seek public funding to open shelters. People apply for student scholarships and grants to complete college. The possibilities are far greater than most people imagine. All that is needed is an opportunity to explore the options. The next step is to take action on the choices made. Perhaps a better question to ask clients is "How is your perception of not having the money to do, be, or have, acting as an obstacle to pursuing what you desire in life?" Don't be afraid to ask successful people how they accomplished their goals. And don't be afraid to ask them if there were ways in which they either did this or could have done this with limited financial resources. What would you do, be, or have today if your belief about needing money for that to happen would change?
