It's no accident

You often hear the word “accident” as it relates to an unexpected negative occurrence. You were chopping a vegetable and “accidently” cut yourself while doing this. Or “I didn’t mean to break that dish. It was an accident.” This is a word we use to explain or excuse what is really happening. When a so-called “accident” occurs, we are actually observing a cause and effect. With the cut that accompanied slicing a vegetable, the cause could have been not holding it in position properly as you sliced it, cutting it on a wet slippery surface, or not paying attention as you sliced it. The effect was that you cut your hand or finger. The same can be held true for the dish when you broke it. There are times when you can learn a lesson from the event and other times when you see it for what it is, the Law of Cause and Effect. For every cause there is an effect and for every effect there is a cause. The difference is when we take responsibility for our part in initiating the cause rather than dismissing it as either accidental a simple, “Sorry for that.” The next time you are quick to dismiss such an event, think of what your part was in it. How would you view the last “accident” you had when seeing it through the lens of cause and effect?
