Just a little extra
There are many people who live their lives by just doing enough to get through the day. Any request for additional help or time is seen as an inconvenience or an imposition. "Not me. That's not my job," is a common response to such a request. Think of what it is like to interact with such people. Now think about spending time with people who are willing to give of themselves beyond what is expected. I have observed this with sales clerks, teachers, and technicians. At the end of the time spent together you feel better about the situation because you have established an emotional connection. The same can certainly be said about those who you consider to be friends. They make time to listen to what you have to say and are there to offer support in whatever way they can. Think about the times when you have given that effort to a situation you were in. How did you feel afterwards? How do you think the other person felt when you extended yourself in this manner? What can you do today to give a little extra to someone in need?
