I attended a sand carving competition on the Oregon coast where teams of carvers were each given several hours to complete their masterpieces. They worked diligently on the beach carefully and meticulously sculpting the sand. Large amorphous forms were transformed into alligators, dinosaurs, and castles. Within a few hours their hard work came to a halt. I wondered why they weren't given more time to work on their creations and why their efforts wouldn't be made available to view for the remainder of the day. The answer was that the tide was coming in and would soon wash away their creations leaving no trace behind. They could have no attachment to their labors. The same is true for each of us. We put forth our best efforts and release our attachment to the outcome. We acknowledge our contributions for the day much like the sand carvers and allow them to become our piece of the greater masterpiece of life. What are you releasing your attachment to in much the same way that the sand carvers do?
