Playing it safe

Date:
December 8, 2021

There are a number of people who would prefer to walk life's path without taking any risks. It is safest for them to traverse the middle of the road to instill a sense of security. Each of us is free to choose what that path will look like. At the same time, the risks that one takes add color to your journey. Think about the times that you have taken risks. They may not have all worked out the way you would have liked them to, but you learned something from each of them. I tend to think of myself as rather conservative when it comes to taking risks. I had to redefine them in that I originally thought of them as physical activities such as skydiving or spelunking. Risks can be part of everyday activities such as meeting a new client, starting a relationship, or making a financial investment. In each case we may feel a lack of control over the outcome. That is what risk is really about. You don't know what the outcome will be and you choose to take the action anyway using the knowledge that you have at the moment. If you choose to always play it safe, you may miss incredible opportunities. There is no right or wrong in what you decide to do in playing it safe. It is more about the adventure you choose to have along the way. What are you doing today to stretch yourself beyond playing it safe?
