Random compliments
When was the last time you received a genuine compliment? This type of compliment comes from the heart and not a perfunctory comment made without much thought. Perhaps someone compliments you on how you look or the quality of work you perform. You feel noticed. Something you have done makes a difference for someone else and they overtly point it out to you. Now ask yourself when the last was that you paid a compliment to someone else. For some this occurs on a daily basis. For others it may be hard to recall when the last time they did this. If you fall into the latter category, ask yourself why this is so difficult for you to do. Perhaps you were rarely complimented growing up or you find that it just doesn't come naturally for you to do. Today you can choose to become more mindful of sharing compliments and start by finding one positive aspect of another person and sharing it with them. You might say to a store cashier, "You have such a nice smile. I'll bet it brightens up a lot of people's days." Don't expect a compliment in return. That is not their purpose. Try this out for one week and see if you notice a change in your interactions. In times when it is so easy to point out the negatives in others, isn't it better to focus on what is positive? Are you ready to make the world a better place today by sharing a few random compliments?
