Self-fulfilling prophecy
We each carry a set of beliefs about who we are. These beliefs are largely based on what others say about us, what they say about the world we live in, and how we have interpreted our own experiences as we travel through life. These beliefs affect our behaviors and color our emotions. They occur at both the conscious and unconscious level of thinking. When our beliefs are grounded in a positive self-image, we find ourselves acting in ways that are beneficial to both ourselves and others. We are confident in who we are and what our purpose is and communicate this easily to others. We expect that life will mirror such beliefs. When we hold a negative self-image our actions and experiences will reflect that image. If my belief is that I am not good at managing money or that I am unlovable, I will discover ways to show the world the truth of what I believe. My finances will be a mess or my life will be about being single and lonely. Then I get to use my "See I told you how I am" card. These negative self-fulfilling prophecies will sabotage any hope of happiness I might have. This is why people practice positive affirmations and declarations. They are creating neural pathways that will now drive their actions to achieve what they believe. The world begins to be a different place to live and enjoy all that life has to offer. What is a self-fulfilling prophecy that you hold and how is it working for you today?
