Take a break

It is easy to become caught up in the day to day events in our lives. What used to take weeks for us to learn about in the news is now happening in what we refer to as "real time." Today's technology allows us to view events from around the world as they occur. Our brains require time for us to process that information to make sense of it. That becomes difficult if we don't give it the time it needs. If you are feeling overloaded with all that you see and hear, consider taking a break from it. Read a book, take a walk, schedule a massage. Focus on that experience and screen out any thoughts that create stress. If you find your mind drifting, bring it back to the moment and remind yourself that the present belongs to you. Ask yourself what activities have a calming effect in your life and then pursue them.
