The eye of the beholder
If you were to assemble ten people and have them witness the same event, the reports they give might be surprising. Each would have their own filter for what they would see and report. Some might focus on physical details and others might focus on emotional impressions. The same is true when you ask siblings to describe their home life as they were growing up. You sometimes wonder if they had the same parents. We each have our own way of seeing the world around us. When we are in a positive space, the world reflects that position. When we are feeling down or angry, the world around us looks very different. Think about specific events in your life and how your thoughts, feelings, and memories colored your interpretation of that event. Monitor those thoughts and feelings throughout the day and see how they affect your attitudes about what is happening in your life. I find that focusing on the positive brings more of the same. I can also choose to transform a negative situation into a positive by looking for the good in it. What are you focusing on today?
