The pursuit of peace
As I reflect on the sacrifices that our young men and women have made in service of their countries, I am saddened by the loss of potential when they give their lives. The unique gifts that were theirs to share are no longer available to the world. How would the world have benefited had they been present for another fifty to seventy years? In what occupations would they have been employed? Could they have been part of a project that introduced new innovations in medicine, food production, or communications? I think of all the birthdays that will never be celebrated. What would the world be like if our efforts were focused on working through what we see as our differences? The energy that is being spent defending specific causes could be directed at a combined effort to effect positive changes. This is possible when we each choose to live a life of peace. It means confronting our fears and insecurities and taking responsibility for finding positive ways to alter them. You are living in a time when this is possible. The more you choose to be mindful of your actions and their consequences, the more we will move in the direction of peace. It begins as individuals and spreads globally. It results in a win-win situation for all. What are you doing to pursue peace in your life today?
