A golden opportunity
When you encounter someone who is in need, what do you typically do? Perhaps it is an elderly person who could use some assistance with their packages or a visitor asking for directions. Do you avoid making eye contact and continue on your way or do you take the time to help in whatever way you can? If you do the former, you may be missing a golden opportunity to be of service to others. It generally doesn't require much time and your efforts are much appreciated. Ask yourself how you feel when others extend a helping hand to you when you are in need. I recall visiting Italy a number of years ago. My knowledge of the Italian language was limited and I needed directions from the train station to my destination. I approached a young woman for help. She shook her head when I asked if she understood English. She walked away and then returned to do the best she could to help me. There are some tasks that require more than one set of hands or information that you lack at the moment. By reaching out, that task seems lighter and you can move on to whatever else needs to be done. Such was the case with this young Italian woman. When was the last time you took advantage of a golden opportunity to help another in need?
