As we age
I remember being a small child and seeing the world around me through eyes of wonder. The colors of the trees in Spring and Autumn were more vibrant. The salty smell of the ocean was almost overpowering. The warmth of the sun on my body was so welcoming after a long cold winter. Time had a different meaning for me when I was young. I recall a change in my physical being on certain special occasions such as birthdays, holidays, and the end of summer as school was about to begin. As the years passed I became aware of the changes in me. The colors were less vibrant, the smell of the ocean was almost nonexistent, and the warmth of that first warm day was nearly forgotten. The business of life had become my focus not leaving much time to appreciate all that was around me. We talk about seeing the world through the eyes of a child. When I think about that, I realize what a gift that can be. I can disengage from the mind chatter and open myself to a sense of wonderment that leads to peace and serenity. I become open to possibility. What childhood memories do you have of being in the world that you would like to experience again? How do you feel as you recall them?
