Clearing the path
I am often reminded that we are human "beings", not human "doings". It is easy enough to get caught up in the day-to-day activities of life and forget that we need balance in our life. One way we look at life is through the filter of the various roles we play. We work, we have a family life, we play, we earn money, we socialize. When meeting with new clients I ask them to rate themselves on a scale of 1-10 as to their current satisfaction in each of these roles. Rarely do I see them with ratings of 9-10 across the board. Imagine a wheel that is lopsided and expected to operate efficiently. More importantly we need a balance of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our life. Each day should have some time set aside for each of these areas. When we do so we find that our lives run more smoothly and we feel a sense of satisfaction and joy. When one of these aspects is out of balance we need to adjust accordingly. We need to consider diet and exercise, studying areas of interest that cause us to grow, monitoring our emotions, and practices such as meditation. We have a greater sense of "being" when we engage in these self-nurturing behaviors. What are you doing to create balance in your life today?
