Deprivation

I am currently in the process of shedding a number of unwanted and unhealthy pounds. I had to be careful not to use the word "lose" as it related to reducing my weight because we tend to find or regain that which we lose. When I embarked upon a change in how I would accomplish this task, I decided to use what I have learned from spiritual principles. I visualize myself at my desired weight and how good I look and feel in the clothes that would not easily fit me. I changed my attitude about the amount and type of food I would be consuming. Rather than feeling deprived, I interpreted my new eating habits as reflective of a new level of caring I had for myself. My almost addictive approach to sweets became a matter of choice. I could choose to satisfy my sweet tooth with a donut or a piece of cake or I could have a piece of fruit. When I eat the fruit I focus on its delicious taste and texture. It also helps to know that I do this one day at a time rather than overwhelming myself by thinking that I need to do this for the rest of my life. I also have made a commitment to myself to sustain this change in behavior for the next six months. What I originally saw as deprivation has transformed into excitement about healthy results. What are you facing today that would benefit from applying a positive approach rather than seeing it as deprivation?
