Finding the benefit
When we choose an action that is in alignment with what we want, it isn't difficult to see the benefit in its results when it appears. It is more challenging to find the benefit in what we say we don't want. When clients talk about a negative situation in their lives, I ask them what the benefit is for its presence. For instance, a client may be out of work for an extended period of time. When asked for the benefit, it may be that they had more time to attend to a family matter or used the time to decide what they really want in life. Once this was attended to, the client was ready to move on with a greater sense of enthusiasm and purpose. You can ask what the benefit is in any situation: a relationship, a financial setback, or a health issue. Guaranteed that, if you are willing to spend the time exploring this, you will find a way in which it has been working for you. That doesn't mean you don't want to change it. In pursuing relationships with potential partners who are emotional or physically unavailable, you may see the benefit as feeling some semblance of love in your life. This will give you the opportunity to attract love in healthier ways beginning with the love of self. What is a situation you perceive as negative and what is its benefit in your life today?
