Finding your focus

I have a friend who has two grown children. When my friend talks about her relationship with her children I hear a longing for a closeness that is often missing. The hoped for calls and visits on special occasions don't happen or the times that are spent together end in disagreements. I can hear the pain in my friend's voice as she shares her feelings around these events. She speaks of how she wishes it could be with her children. While it may be that the love and caring she hopes for may not come from her children today, she is showered with messages of love from others in her life. Through her giving to the community she is sought out wherever she goes from individuals who freely express how important she in in their lives. She is the recipient of hugs and kisses that come from the heart. When her focus is on those sources, she feels truly cared for. It is a matter of choosing to recognize that love can come from many sources. It is up to each of us to be open to what they are. Where are you placing your focus on what you desire in life and are you missing opportunities to see evidence of it in your life today?
