The power of the heart

Our brain is a miraculous device. It is the means for storing information, making decisions, automatically running our physical systems, and sending and receiving messages for our survival. Thousands of hours of research have been spent on learning how the brain functions. Yet we are only now beginning to learn what the heart is capable of beyond pumping blood throughout our system. Science is now learning that the heart possesses an electromagnetic field stronger than that of the brain. The heart also has its own set of neural pathways. This may be why we have heard for centuries that we should "follow our heart." Many of our sayings are associated with the heart and not the head. We are heart sick, heavy or light hearted, feeling heart ache, and sharing heart felt wishes. We associate love with the heart and not the brain. We also are accepting that a person can die from a broken heart. Unresolved emotions can be trapped within the heart and create a barrier that keeps us from enjoying life to its fullest extent. It may be time to recognize that the heart shares its importance with the brain, rather than to think of it as an organ similar to the liver or the spleen. What do you associate with the heart and the power it may contain?
