First impressions

There are some people who believe that others form their impressions of us within the first ten seconds of meeting. It is upon this impression that they make their initial decision as to whether or not you are likeable, trustworthy, or genuine. Some people refer to this as judging your character. In some cases their first impression is a valid one. In other cases it turns out that the other person is not what they first appear to be. Perhaps the person was judged as unlikable when the person was demonstrating a characteristic such as discerning or reserved. As you allowed this person into your life, you found that they had all the qualities you were seeking to be a best friend. There were other times when you met the person and deemed them trustworthy only to find later that they were manipulating and insincere. It is important to mind your first impressions and ask them what their message is. If there is any hesitation in forming a relationship with someone you meet, ask yourself what the root of this might be. Then be willing to honor that intuitive part of you as you move forward in getting to know the person. What has been your track record with first impressions and what have you learned from that?
