Global grieving
We grieve the end of what was. In the past several months our world has been turned upside down. Many have made accommodations to their daily lives that have increased stress levels and uncertainty. Others have looked upon this as a time to step back and assess their place in the world. I talk with friends across the globe and, when they describe what their lives are like, they might as well be living across the street. The question becomes, "When will life return to the way it was?" The harsh reality responds that that was the past. Thus we grieve what was. There is no firm prediction of what this new way of life will be and we struggle with what the future holds. There are so many unanswered questions. How do we deal with what we are facing? For some it is through denying the severity of the situation. For others it is displays of anger for the loss of freedom. Still others are weighing what options we had and what would have happened if different decisions had been made. We may fall literally into what will be the Great Depression as a planet. What will we be asked to accept when and if this is over? Where are you in your global grieving process knowing that the stages of grief are perfectly natural?
