Kindness counts

We are constantly reminded to be kind to others. Yet what do we do to put these words into practice? Think of the last time that you chose to be kind. What were the circumstances? Was the kindness directed toward an individual you knew and cared for or was it toward someone that you find difficult to be with? Perhaps it was with a perfect stranger. Do you find yourself being selective in your kindness? Is there an expectation of receiving something in return? When we are kind we are giving from the heart out of a recognition of our connection with others. There are actually chemicals in the brain that are released during these times that aid in feelings of contentment and relaxation. Kindness is doing good in the world especially in times when we may be prone to act out of what we see as negative events occurring around us. Look for ways to practice acts of kindness without discrimination. The stranger you encounter today may be having a difficult day and your deed may turn that around. Make kindness a part of who you are. Think of famous people you know who lived their lives accordingly and the memories we have of them. What are you doing to live a life of kindness today?
