Land of the lost

About ten years ago I placed my wedding ring on my night stand as I usually do and went to sleep. The next morning when I awoke the ring was nowhere to be found. I had never left my home so it was not likely that it was somewhere outside. I checked every possible place where it might be with no success. Eventually I replaced the ring with a duplicate. Years later I was having the bedroom redone and told that carpet installers that I would give them a reward if they found the ring. I would like to say that they did, but it never materialized. This led me to the question of where physical objects go when they seemingly disappear. Is there a land of the lost that serves as a repository for such material objects? If so, it must be similar to an immense warehouse that stores them until they are returned or remain forever. Or perhaps they are destined to become the property of a new owner at some future time. Since we know that matter can neither be created or destroyed, it must exist somewhere. I trust that it is well cared for. What have you been unable to locate that might be stored in the land of the lost?
