Lessons from our pets

Our pets are a wonderful source of learning. Having our cockapoo, Rocky, in my life for 16 years taught me so much about how to approach life. He taught me how to love unconditionally. When I would return from a trip, he would be there at the door with his tail wagging as if he had just seen me an hour before. When I wasn’t feeling well, he would lay his head on my thigh to let me know he was there for me. When it was time to say good-bye on his 16th birthday, I learned the true meaning of loss. That was probably the saddest day of my life and it reminded me of the depth of our connection. Two weeks ago a new pet came into our lives. His name is Ozzy and he is a rescue dog from Mexico. He has taught me patience as he adjusts to his new environment. He has also shown me the power of resilience having been abused prior to him coming into our lives. He loves to cuddle as he communicates his need for love and closeness. That is something we all benefit from in order to thrive. I look forward to learning more from Ozzy as time passes. What lessons have you learned from your pets?
