Lest we forget

Our memories serve a valuable purpose as a reminder of past events and the emotions that surround them. They provide a means for evaluating a current situation as eliciting a past memory as either painful or pleasurable. It is at this time that the element of choice comes into play. Your free will allows you to either repeat or reject the experience based on the past. For some, they may choose the former since it falls into the pattern of behavior they have accepted. That pattern can either be painful or pleasurable. The painful can be the choice to remain in an abusive relationship as an adult that is reminiscent of a past childhood. This can be a product of the belief that this is all they deserve in life. The pleasurable can be based on memories of past events that brought joy and happiness. This can be a continued focus on what is good and beautiful in life. Our conscious focus on memories can serve as the basis for what we choose to continue or change that reflects what we desire. Remember that you always have the capability to change what is happening in your life today when it is not in your best interest. What are the memories you can recall and ask yourself if they are part of a pattern you wish to continue?
