Losing your self

The Self can sometimes be defined by the stories we tell ourselves and others. These stories are based on our perceptions of the events occurring at the time. We hold them as our truth and share them with others as such. We own them in as much as we believe that they explain who and why we are the person at the center of that story. We use the story of Self to navigate the day and make decisions accordingly. In many ways that can be a good thing if we are focused on the positive aspects of life such as love, caring, compassion, and beauty. What about when we are focused on sharing our victim story about the Self? When this occurs you may see it as an opportunity to change your story by seeking ways to avoid that in the future or seeing how the situation contributed to your personal growth. Have you ever noticed two people telling the story of the same incident? You sometimes wonder if they were actually in the same place based on what they share. Rethinking our investment in our stories that are part of the Self can be a way to evolve into the person you are meant to be. Where are you in your Self today?
