Love covered with fur
Love comes in many forms. Among them is the love we have for our pets. In my case it is specifically dogs. In the last twenty years I have been blessed with two incredible pets. Our last was a cockapoo that was in our lives for 16 years. Our recent pet is a rescue dog from Mexico who was severely abused before we adopted him. It took him awhile to trust us based on how he had been treated, but eventually he realized that he was in a safe environment where he would receive the love he deserved. That love is returned in the joy he brings each day beginning with a good morning greeting telling us it is time to start the day. Our relationship is reciprocal. We provide food and shelter and in return we are the recipients of his affection and unconditional love. Our pets can teach us so much about how to live life. No matter what they have experienced in the past, there is room to put that behind them and live in the moment. I do know that for some animals, that trauma can be insurmountable. No animal deserves to be treated in such a manner. Their innocence should be honored and respected. Our Ozzy did nothing to be treated in such an abusive manner, yet he has moved beyond this to show us his great capacity for love. If you are the proud owner of a pet, what have you learned from them in how to love?
