It's about time
We tend to think of time as measured in minutes, hours, and days. That is more of an objective view of time. We can use a stop watch, a calendar, or a clock to track and report the passage of time. Then there is the more subjective view of time. This depends more on the circumstances surrounding time. Think of how time passes when you are waiting for an important document to arrive. Has it been only two days? It feels like weeks. How about waiting for an event such as a birthday or retirement? It is as if someone is adding days and years to the calendar. Then there are the situations when you are engaged in an activity when hours feel like minutes. This is what is referred to as being in the flow. You are enjoying what you are doing so much that time feels irrelevant. As you move through the decades of your life, ask yourself which ones have passed more quickly than others and what was happening to contribute to that. Were you fully engaged in life or spending your days in misery hoping that tomorrow would be better? How will you look back on the days that have passed knowing that the time has gone and cannot be retrieved?
