Moving forward

Many of us find ourselves facing circumstances that are painful. These circumstances may involve a loss, a disappointment, or a betrayal. Perhaps it is a death of someone close, a job opportunity that doesn't come to fruition, or co-worker you trusted who damages your reputation at work. The initial wave of emotions can be devastating. What begins as shock moves through a series of feelings including anger and depression. This is a natural progression as you attempt to regain control of your life. Eventually you come to a point where you realize that there is nothing you can do to alter the events of the past. There may be a sadness that accompanies that before you accept this to be the case. What you can do is accept that the event has occurred and ask yourself how you can be a better person as a result of it. Can you be more compassionate towards others, explore new possibilities for work, or be more discerning in your trust of others? Ask yourself if you are ready to do that today knowing that the memories of the past can be a gift. What are you experiencing today that would benefit from you moving on in your life?
