Not everything we do has a monetary value attached to it. Acts of kindness, generosity, and commitment cost nothing but bring vast reward when exercised. Acts of kindness can include simple gestures such as addressing a store clerk by name and thanking him or her for the service provided. It can also be shown by holding a door open for someone carrying packages. Something as simple as a smile can brighten someone’s day. Acts of generosity can include giving of your time and talent. Opportunities to volunteer for worthy causes abound. It may be that you choose to visit a convalescent home or help out at a local food bank. Think of the talents that you possess and how you can share them with others. You may be a great organizer and help coordinate an event for a local nonprofit agency. Maybe you excel at gardening and offer your talent in beautifying a neighborhood with flowering plants and trees. Following through on your commitments costs nothing. It means showing up when promised and doing what is asked. You may commit to community clean up and are there as scheduled. None of the above empty your wallet and yet they fill your heart with joy and fulfillment. What can you do to make a difference in the world at no extra charge?
