Out of tomorrows
When I received a text message from my brother late one evening, I immediately sensed a knot in my stomach. The message began with "Got some bad news today." What followed was that his sister-in-law had been killed that afternoon in a freak accident. While playing with her grandson on what was otherwise an uneventful sunny day, a dead branch from a tree in their yard fell and killed her instantly. There was no warning; nothing that could have been avoided. I cannot begin to imagine what it was like for her husband and grandchild to watch helplessly. In a blink of an eye the lives of so many people were changed forever. We think our lives are filled with endless tomorrows complete with hopes and dreams. From out of nowhere can come something to alter that sometimes tragically. Her last moments of life were spent in joy as she played with her young grandson. I wonder what I would do today if I knew that at any moment I could be out of tomorrows. What would you do if that was true for you?
