Racing through life
We often talk about setting goals and working towards achieving them. Goals are highly useful in that they can provide a sense of purpose and direction. A caveat to setting goals is that we lose sight of what is happening today. We can become so focused on achieving the goal that we race through the day in our quest for what we believe will be awaiting us in the future. Take advantage of what each day brings. Savor all that it has to offer. Be mindful of what you are doing this very moment. How do you feel right now? Is there anything you need to address in this moment to alter those feelings? Is the joy you hope to achieve in the future overriding the joy that you can be experiencing in the present? Ask yourself: "What would happen if the goal that I worked so hard to achieve changed for some reason? How would I feel about my life up to this point?" What might you miss if you were racing ahead toward that goal? It places life in the proper perspective as you balance the future and the present. Don't forget to live life today while planning for your dreams tomorrow. What are you doing to avoid racing through life and missing the treasures that life brings today?
