Shame
As children we may have heard an adult admonish us with the phrase, "Shame on you." Depending on how we perceived the role of that person in our lives, this was a powerful statement. Something we had said or done had been judged as a serious wrong in their eyes. Did you know that the gesture of striking one pointing finger downward against the other symbolized castration thus disempowering the person who had performed the act? While many people have defenses against internalizing shame, others carry it trapped within them for the rest of their lives. Shame has been shown to have the lowest vibrational level of all of our emotions. It affects our sense of self esteem and self worth. It is associated with suicidal ideation. When we live in our shame it drains us of the life we were meant to live. You are not your shame. Think back to when a shaming incident occurred and find ways to release that emotion in a way that is safe for you. This will allow you to fully experience other emotions that attract what you truly deserve. What would your life be like without shame?
