Speak your truth

Date:
September 21, 2024

You will hear about people being encouraged to speaktheir truth. Their truth is largely based on a combination of experiences, beliefs, and opinions. It is easy enough to listen to the person's truth whenit closely aligns with yours. But what about the person whose truth seems to bediametrically opposed to what your truth might be. Are you as open to hearingwhat they have to say or do you dismiss it as "Consider the source'? It ishighly unlikely that everyone will respond to another person's truth withoutimposing some type of judgment on it whether that be spoken or unspoken. Whatif you could suspend that judgment and recognize their statements as sharingtheir unique experience, beliefs, and opinions? Regardless of whether you agreewith it, it can be an opportunity to say, "Tell me more about that."You will gain insights as to what contributed to their truth without having tocorrect them. This is what creates diversity in the world. Imagine what theworld would be like if everyone thought exactly the same. You can always stateafterwards, "That's an interesting perspective on the situation."When was the last time you spoke your truth and how was it received by others?
