Stewardship

The dictionary defines stewardship as the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care. I think about the pieces of this definition and what they mean to me. What is involved in careful and responsible management? There is a conscious intention to plan for the best interest of our focus considering outcomes and the greatest good for all involved. What have I been given or entrusted with to look after? It may be an elderly parent or a child, the environment, or the less fortunate. What does it mean to be in my care? I must tend it with love, mindfulness, and protection. I ask myself who is responsible for stewardship on this planet. The answer is every human being. When I choose to practice stewardship, I am choosing to make a difference for myself and others. Some people refer to this as selfless service performed for the sake of the greater good. Our lives can take on a different meaning when we are acting as stewards. What are you doing as a steward today?
