Synchronicity
Have you ever been thinking of a person you hadn't spoken to in awhile and then next thing you knew, he or she was calling you on the telephone? Or have you ever been in need of a specific amount of money and a check for that amount showed up unexpectedly in your mailbox? These are what we call examples of synchronocity. Two different events come together that are related to meaning for the person at the receiving end of the experience. An interesting example of this is illustrated by the purchase of a coat from a second-hand store by the wardrobe department to be worn by Professor Marvel for The Wizard of Oz. The coat later turned out to have actually been owned by L. Frank Baum, who had written the book upon which the film was based. In my own life I recall attending a workshop on psychological type and the presenter promised to send copies of her powerpoint to anyone who requested them. When I hadn't heard from her in almost two weeks, I wondered how I would get in touch with her because I didn't have her contact information. I thought of several ways in which this could happen and then let it go. Last night I attended a meeting of about 20 to 30 people and there she was. Today I have a copy of her powerpoint. Some people think that these occurrences are simply coincidences. It may be more about our thoughts being part of a larger collective consciousness and us being open to receive their messages related to what is happening in our lives that day. How had synchronicity been evident in your life or do you think this is merely coincidence?
