The lengthening and shortening of days
For those of us in the northern hemisphere, the arrival of the winter solstice harkens the lengthening of daylight. For those south of the equator the daylight slowly decreases as the days pass. For as long as man has inhabited the earth, this has been a regular occurrence. It is amazing that there has been little variation in this pattern. We count on the predictability of the seasons and the change of the amount of light that accompanies them. To acknowledge this, man has created festivities across the planet to mark the change. While one might think that this is rather archaic, there is something to be said about the traditions and celebrations that link our past and our present. Our lives involve cycles that remind us that little remains the same. What was will change. What matters is that we recognize this to be true and work to create a future that brings joy and happiness. What do the changes in daylight signify for you and how do you feel as those changes occur?
