The pause that refreshes

Date:
July 13, 2026

The day that you planned doesn’t work out as you expected. Your alarm clock fails to wake you up meaning that you have a choice of breakfast or arriving at work on time. You pass on breakfast meaning that you will be running on empty fuel until lunch. You rush out the door forgetting to take the materials you need for your morning presentation. What else could go wrong? This is the time to stop, take a deep breath, and reset your day. Clear your mind of any negative self-talk like, “How could I be so stupid to forget my materials. Now I am going to look incompetent in front of my manager and coworkers.” After a few moments of quietude, ask yourself what you could do to address each of the challenges you faced. Begin with the situation of the alarm clock. Is it in working order or is it time to purchase a more reliable one? How can I make sure I don’t skip breakfast? Each of these questions has an answer that will help make your life easier. You can apply this to any situation in your life. Pause and breathe. Now reset your day by being gentle with yourself and proceed from there. When was the last time that life didn’t go as planned and how would you pausing it have made a difference?
