The road to happiness

Date:
February 21, 2016

We think of happiness as a destination, a state where we would choose to live out our days. We may equate feeling happy with being in a state of bliss. We wonder why happiness seems to be so elusive. For me, happiness is being in a state of acceptance. It exists independent of externals such as what is happening around me or the material things I possess. Those circumstances are constantly changing. If I focus on accepting what is, knowing that I am always given what I need at any given moment, I will experience a sense of peace that contributes to being happy. Our world is a world of contrasts. For me to appreciate happiness I have to have something that contrasts with it. There are multiple ways that occurs including events which bring up the emotions of anger and fear. When I dwell on emotions such as these I know that I need to check in to learn what is happening within me. I can then ask myself what it is that I need to accept and what I need to change. Sound familiar? The road to happiness may be filled with twists and turns and detours. Enjoy the ride. Where are you on your road to happiness today?
