Tomorrow is another day
Like Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone with the Wind," many of us have made an art of procrastination. People procrastinate for a number of reasons. They may do so out of fear of failure, habit, or thinking that they need to have more information before taking action. The fear of failure can be rooted in attaching self-worth to doing tasks perfectly. Our greatest learning often comes from the mistakes we make. We use our mistakes as signals that bring us closer to a desired outcome. Ask any inventor about that process. Habits are behavioral patterns that can change when they no longer serve. Ask yourself what purpose procrastination is serving in your life and decide if it is is time for a change. Needing more information will keep us stuck in that there will always be something new to consider. At some point we need to take action with what we know. When we procrastinate we are living in tomorrow when we could be acknowledging and acting on our decisions today. Think of the energy you expend thinking about what it takes to put things off and the worry that can accompany it. What can you do today that you have been putting off for another day?
