What is enough?
I recently watched a video of a tribe that lives in the Brazilian rain forest. Their lives are guided by the principle that all they need is what sustains them in their day. There is no drive within them to amass or hoard anything. The men go out and gather firewood and are told by the women when to stop because there is enough for the daily tasks such as cooking. I wonder how such an approach to life would look like here where we live. What would the interior of our homes look like? What would our pantries and refrigerators be like? Would we be so engrossed in building our bank accounts and investment portfolios? Perhaps we have been so acculturated to save for the proverbial rainy day that we have no idea what would constitute enough to provide for us. So far we have been given all that we need to be here today. How much beyond that is based upon having our wants, rather than our needs, met? Look around you and ask yourself if you have enough. What would your answer be and how might your life change if you realized you already had enough?
