What we resist
When you focus your attention on what you don't want in your life, you attract more of the same. What might a person be resisting? Perhaps it is making a decision about remaining in a dysfunctional relationship or resigning from a position that is emotionally exhausting. If you are consciously placing your thoughts on maintaining your situation with the hope that it will improve on its own, you will likely experience its presence even more. The relationship or the job will continue to elicit negative feelings and responses. So what is the solution to resistance? It begins by recognizing that you are paying a steep price for maintaining the status quo. Knowing that it is highly unlikely that change will come from the other person or situation, look at what you can do to change. Seek support to make those changes. This can be through professional or personal support. Make progress at your own pace. Sometimes trying out new behaviors takes time. What you feel afterwards may seem foreign to you so it will take time to internalize its benefits. Watch how the situation changes as you change. Be willing to celebrate the new you as you feel the transformation. It all begins with you being open to doing life differently when it no longer serves you. What step can you take today to lean into resistance so that it no longer persists?
