When a pet passes
Yesterday was a particularly painful one as I said good-bye to our beloved cockapoo, Rocky, who turned 16 the day earlier. In his final days with us he taught me so much about the value of unconditional love. Due to his incontinence based on his lack of control in his hind legs, cleaning up after him became an act of love. This was not something he was doing on purpose, and I accepted this as proof that it was time for us to release him from his earthly life. I would have wanted him in my life for another ten years, but not under these circumstances. As he slipped away, I pictured him approaching the Rainbow Bridge looking back at us with love. Waiting for him on the other side were all of our past pets. As he crossed the bridge he was transformed into his five-year-old self full of energy and excitement as he joined his pack of new found friends. There will come a time when we are reunited with our pets and loved ones. That day will be filled with peace and joy. In the meantime I am reminded of the wonderful times I shared with our Rocky. What was dealing with the passing of your pet like for you?
