When all else fails

Have you ever offered options to a friend who was having a problem only to hear, “Yeah, I already tried that and it didn’t work”? So you propose another option and hear, “That won’t work either.” It may be time to detach from their situation and allow them to seek out their own solutions. A solution will eventually appear given enough time passing. It may not always be to the liking of the other person, but it will become evident. What matters is what the other person learns from this. It may result in realizing that taking on a passive role in decision making places others in a position of power. It may also teach them that they need to gather more information about the situation to avoid making an impulsive decision. They may need to learn to trust their intuition before taking on a risky enterprise. This is where you can step in afterwards and ask them what they learned from the situation and what they might do differently in the future. Recognize that you are not here to fix everyone else’s problems unless your own life is completely problem free. Most likely that is not the case. If not, then consider a problem you might be encountering and what you need to resolve it. Sometimes it requires that you release it to something greater than yourself and watch what happens. What have you learned from dealing with a problem in your life when all else fails?
