Your best friend

Looking back at your life, who would you identify as being your best friend? Was there more than one person who occupied this role in your life? Having a best friend is one of the greatest gifts you could have. Here is an individual with whom you can totally be yourself. They see you on your best of days and on your worst of days. They do not judge. They give you unconditional love and support. Many of these relationships last for decades. I still value the friendship I formed just prior to starting high school. We were there for one another into our adult years. I even stood up for him as his best man when it was time to marry. Eventually circumstances led us to each heading in a different direction in our lives. In no way did that reduce how much he meant to me. Sadly his life came to an abrupt end when he contracted COVID in early 2020. It came as a total shock to me. Unfortunately the restrictions imposed by COVID prevented me from traveling back east to say my goodbyes in a formal ceremony. What I recognized was the difference he made in my life over the years we were best friends. Although he is not physically present, his memories will always be a part of the relationship we had. I recently had the opportunity to meet with his two adult daughters who now have children of their own. Hat meeting allowed me to share stories about their father that they would have never known otherwise. What memories do you have of your best friend?
