Your happiness dial

How do you know when you are happy? We each create a set point from which we determine the presence and intensity of happiness. In our minds we assess events compared to that set point. Did what just happened move me up or down my happiness scale? How far up or down the scale did I move? How long will I be there before a change takes place? What we do know is that the dial rarely stays in the same place for long. Think of what it is that causes the dial to shift. Life is happening constantly and we are responding to it both mentally and emotionally. How do these thoughts and emotions move the dial? If they are negative in nature we can consciously turn them around by recognizing the effect they have on us. Choose to spend less time ruminating on the past and ask yourself how you can be responding positively in the present. Then take the necessary action to shift your happiness dial. Where is your happiness dial pointing today and how satisfied are you with what it is telling you?
