Your lucky day

When most people think about luck, they tend to think of a force outside of themselves that provides them with either good or bad fortune. People who win the lottery are often considered to have good luck. People who are late for an important appointment and are further hampered by a flat tire are having bad luck. Yet luck doesn't occur in isolation. You can't win the lottery without having a ticket. Your lateness for the appointment may be based on a number of factors which may have been avoided. Every day that you show up for life is filled with events that you deem as positive or negative. These judgments are based on the consequences of the moment. We hear of people who win millions of dollars in the lottery only to return to pennilessness in a few short years. The flat tire may be an inconvenience in the moment, but could have contributed to you being involved in a tragic accident had you proceeded as planned. Luck, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. Think of what you are contributing to the perspective you have of it in your life today. I prefer to think of luck as a set of gifts that I am given throughout the day. They only have the value I give them. That places me in control of their consequences rather than being a force of nature outside myself. What does luck look like for you today?
