Getting along with others
I recently completed a 16-day cruise around Australia and into Bali. What was most notable was the diversity of the crew on the ship. They represented six continents. They referred to themselves as family and that is what they projected as they interacted with the passengers and each other. The crew would go out of their way to help in any way they could. Any problem was dealt with immediately. What I noticed most was that they addressed us by our last names throughout the cruise. My last name is not the easiest to pronounce, but they all did so perfectly. At the same time I would greet each of them by name. To me this was a sign of respect from both sides. How much effort does it take to acknowledge someone by name regardless of the role they play? Everyone smiled throughout the day. Not always easy when some of them were up at 5 AM to serve breakfast. I never heard any negative comments from anyone. That’s a rarity in this day and age. All of these behaviors contributed to an atmosphere of congeniality and caring. Think about what the world would be like if we all chose to be like this. At the end of our cruise several crew members said that they wanted to kidnap me because of my consistent positive attitude. What a compliment. What are you doing to get along with others today?
