If I only had what they have
When talking to someone I have never met before, it isn’t unusual to hear them comment, “I wish I had your life.” My response is always the same. “Only if you are willing to go through what I did to get here.” It goes back to the old adage of the grass being greener on the other side. The comment about wishing to have my life usually refers to my travels around the world and the adventures accompanying them. Rather than living vicariously through my travels, wouldn’t it be better to begin to plan your own? You may not enjoy visiting the same locations or engaging in the activities I do. In actuality, most of what is involved with wanting the life someone else has is the limiting beliefs you hold around obtaining it. Beliefs like “I could never afford that.” “I don’t have the time to travel. I’ll wait until I retire.” “I’d have to travel alone.” If cost is an issue, you would be surprised at what you can find on a limited budget. I didn’t start my world travels until I was 59 although I had been to Europe in my late 20s. I know many people who travel solo and love it. Think about what you want to do in life and then take the first steps to do it. This could be related to the work you do, your finances, or where you live. Imagine people saying to you, “I wish I had your life.” What would be the first step you could take to create such a life?
